When Chan was 21 years old, he went to Las Vegas where he worked as a Glitter Gultch (think Binions) cook on the fabled Freemont street in Downtown Las Vegas. While there, he played as much poker as he could. After a while, he started to get really good at th egame making  pretty good money, too. Eventually, he became a full time poker player, earning enough money to make a living.

After going from big game to big game in Vegas and even Houston, he won his first world championship in 1987. In 1988, he won the very same poker title again. The next year, he was playing for his third championship, which would have been a first, but he came in second to a young Phil Hellmuth Jr.

Since then, Chan sticks to playing big names in poker. Some of you may have seen his small role in the 1998 movie Rounders with Matt Damon.
